This week is National Apprenticeship Week, which aims to highlight all the amazing work done by employers and apprentices across the country. So, we wanted to take the opportunity to shine a light on our apprentices and all the great work they do for us.

Each day we thought we’d #AskAnApprentice to tell us a little bit about themselves, their role and their time at Castle, and discuss why they chose to do an apprenticeship, so you can get to know our apprentices in their own words!

Today we are meeting our digital marketing apprentices from the influencer department and our apprentice who is PA to our MD!

Digital Marketing Apprentices

Emma Cottham – Digital Marketing Apprentice

I’m 20 years old; I enjoy binging good TV shows, like Bridgerton, Gossip Girl, and Friends, as well as anything to do with true crime. And I am such a foodie!

I chose to do an apprenticeship because I want to gain skills and experience through the help of those who already have them. I really enjoy marketing and want to learn more about it. So this is the perfect apprenticeship for me and I feel so lucky to have it.

At Castle, I am in the influencer department. I’ve loved every second so far. I reach out to people on social media who have a significant following and ask if we can get them on board with our products and if they’d like to promote them. Through working at Castle I have learnt a lot about how social media has changed the marketing world. There has been a large shift from newspapers to websites and apps, like TikTok and Instagram, which can form trends within hours.

Daniel Kelly – Personal Assistant to Managing Director

Interests/Hobbies

I am absolutely obsessed with football and practically live and breathe Liverpool football club. I also enjoy playing football as well. My friends and I formed our own team and were able to get backing from a law firm called MSB, who have multiple teams representing their name.

I loved playing video games, mainly on Xbox and PC but drifted away from these as I grew older. But now with the current climate, I’ve found myself enjoying video games once again. I also absolutely love electronic music and enjoy attending festivals and events. And I really enjoy socialising with my friends and family (which is usually in the pub.)

Why did I choose an apprenticeship?

I chose to do an apprenticeship because, after 3 years of working in the web design industry, my love and passion began to diminish.

With my web design background, particularly using WordPress, I had a small amount of knowledge regarding SEO. This opened pandora’s box when I began researching the marketing industry and all the intricate methods and techniques agencies use to sell a brand and just how successful they can be.

My time at Castle

I started at Castle on the 8th of December. When I first arrived, I expected to be eased into the business as I was an apprentice, but this was simply not the case! Every new employee at Castle is thrown straight into it (which isn’t a bad thing). I was put straight to work on all aspects of the company. As I am the personal assistant to the managing director, I would normally be given tasks from him directly. I thought these would be mainly admin, with the occasional task for another department. However, the week I started he was out of the office, so I was assigned tasks from other employees in each department.

This meant I learnt about social media, affiliate marketing and SEO all in my first week. Since then, I have been helping with posting on social media. But most of my tasks have been quality of life ones to aid the MD and help make his life easier.

The Castle Team

In my previous work, everyone was quiet and reserved, and we didn’t talk much during the working day. But on my first day at Castle, everyone immediately introduced themselves and were incredibly friendly and chatty throughout the day. The rest of the employees here at Castle are the biggest credit to the company. They’re what ultimately made me settle in so fast. I feel as though everyone here is a friend of mine that I have been acquainted with for years. I can go up to a colleague whom I’ve never dealt with before, and ask them for something and they would happily oblige. They also ask general life questions, so it wouldn’t be just all about work.

I haven’t been here long, but I have already learnt so much just from working here, alongside the courses for my apprenticeship. When I was first tasked to assist the other departments, each person gave me a personal zoom call to show me exactly how to use the software and to ask any questions if I needed help. That level of reassurance is what makes me feel welcomed into a brand-new company.

What do I enjoy most about my role?

It’s difficult to pin down what I enjoy most about my role. There are a number of things I particularly enjoy. As I am the personal assistant to the managing director, I am involved with all aspects of the company. That means I get to communicate and deal with almost everyone at the company. Whether that is the social media team, web development, affiliates, content or the paid advertisement department. I am also involved a lot with business transactions and dealings between management. This gives me a great sense of responsibility, rather than just being a cog in the machine.
